Santa's Hug

Last week I said yes to an impromptu afternoon with some longtime chiro gal pals—each one a loving sister/friend. For more than 30 years we’ve lifted each other up and shared a deep love for our profession.

We strolled, shopped, sampled treats, and soaked in the pre-holiday glow. It was a much-needed pause, and I loved playing local tour guide for their first Christkindlmarkt visit here in Bethlehem.

As special as our time together was, the real Christmas magic was still ahead.

I had to leave early; we made our goodbye hugs and holiday wishes. My own plans are still taking shape; and I know the season will be different this year…

As I was nearing the exit, I caught a glimpse of Santa Claus in the newly relocated kids area, and saw he was actually free - no waiting children in sight.

I guess the earlier bustling lines of families had headed home for dinner. And in a rare quiet time, Santa was actually quite alone.

I moved on auto pilot.

With no forethought I opened the glass door and simply walked right up to

Santa. He was sitting right there, and we locked eyes like we knew each other.

Of course we did.

I've always loved Santa and Santa recognizes us the child in us all..

He smiled with his eyes; opened his arms, without a word, I entered into a genuine, loving hug. Like he knew..

He hugged me as I shared it would be my Mom's first Christmas in Heaven.

And he held me til I let go. I'm sure it was fast in reality, but it was just right.

How perfect and needed that hug was. And in that tic of time it was a bubble of quiet light, just the two of us, and I was wrapped in a pure, caring St. Nick embrace.

A hug so gentle and kind that it filled my little girl heart.

Thank you for my healing hug Santa Claus.

In years past I have had the sweet opportunity to adjust Santa. Now it was my turn. Santa's hug was an adjustment to my spirit.

My Mom is so much more than okay now.

And I'm more okay now too.

🎄❤️

Life continues, although its shape and space may change.. Thanks to all of you for your caring and patience as we held space, stayed with mom and celebrated her amazing life. Your thoughts and prayers are so appreciated.

Mom loved getting adjusted and having many exchanges with my colleagues and friends over the years. A fun fact is my green table was reupholstered by her skilled hands, and she also secretly saved up for the purchase of my first table!

And now: Be gentle with yourself as the days start feeling stressed with shopping and traffic and rushed momentum. Don't strive for perfection. Carve out quality time for yourself and create joy for others. There are 12 Days of Christmas, so slow down. If it doesn't get done, in all likelihood it'll be fine. Love on your family, your friends. Reach out with a call, a card, a text, a visit.
