Three Favorite Words

It's a gorgeous morning here on the back porch as I write. I just returned from a long weekend on Cape Cod, and a little step-away reset is always a wonderful thing. I hope you're finding moments this summer to pause—to put your feet in the grass, the sand, the water, or along a favorite trail—and simply breathe.

One of the blessings of practicing in our garden office is that every day brings a different view. This week it was hummingbirds visiting the tall phlox, curious critters making their rounds, and dramatic summer downpours. Nature has a way of reminding us that whatever comes our way, we adapt.

We adapt all the time. For outside shifts, we slow down in traffic, grab an umbrella, or put on a hat in the sun.

Inside our bodies' adaptation is even more remarkable. Every second, countless functions shift to help us meet the demands of life.

We were designed to assess and respond to changes in the rhythm of life!

I feel lighter!

When someone is new to chiropractic, I don't ask, "How do you feel?" Instead, I ask, "What do you notice?" That simple question invites a heightened awareness rather than symptom reporting.

Over the years, I've heard many memorable comments after a first adjustment. Right away there's a shift, and it could be subtle or profound, as the body begins to adapt to functioning more clearly.

But hearing these 3 words said aloud over and over have become my favorite:

"I feel lighter."

It's often said with genuine tone of surprise, and it's almost always the phrase from all first timers. So cool! Here's why:

Words Matter

The word subluxation comes from the Latin roots sub ("less than") and lux ("light"). Vertebral subluxation interferes with the communication between the brain and body. A chiropractic adjustment doesn't put health into you—it reduces that interference so your body can better express the health already within you.

As you've heard me say many times, I'm not here to fix what's wrong with you. I'm here to work with what's right within you.

Perhaps that's why people so often say they feel lighter!

When your nervous system is clear, you're better prepared for whatever weather changes life brings.

With our youngest practice members, I finish with a gentle tap on the nose and, "Beep, beep...power's on!"

Maybe that's what we all need.

Not perfection.

Just a little more light..

Enjoy the breezes, the sunsets, and the slower rhythm of August. Here's to adapting well, and living just a little lighter.

See you on the Tables!
